Local by default
HyperBerry is a menu-bar launcher that runs on your Mac. Search, Path Jump, Berry Shelf, Labs, Screenshots, and most other features work locally. There is no HyperBerry account and no cloud sync of your launcher data.
HyperBerry does not include an analytics or crash-reporting service, and it does not send query, path, or identifier-bearing telemetry.
What stays on this Mac
- Berry Shelf stores items you pin, successful application launches, and successful use of fixed tool or command identifiers in the local preference domain.
- Settings and preferences such as the global shortcut, appearance, Launch at Login, Quick Links, and Window Commands bindings stay local.
- Berry Snippets store only the names, aliases, plain-text content, and expansion preferences you save in Settings.
- File search uses short-lived, home-scoped Spotlight queries for filenames. HyperBerry does not keep its own file index or search file contents.
- Screenshots and OCR use one temporary PNG for an explicit capture action, then delete it. Captures are not uploaded or retained as HyperBerry history.
Opt-in exceptions
Clipboard History and global snippet expansion exist in the app and stay off until you enable them in Settings.
- When Clipboard History capture is enabled, HyperBerry checks the clipboard change count about once per second and reads content only after it changes. Entry content is memory-only unless you also enable keeping history after quitting, which encrypts bounded entries locally with a feature-specific Keychain key.
- When global snippet expansion is enabled, HyperBerry may receive global key events to retain only the current bounded alias candidate. Observed keys are not logged, saved, or transmitted. Expansion stops when paused, disabled, or unsafe.
Network
HyperBerry’s built-in network clients are limited and on-demand:
- Sparkle contacts the configured HTTPS update feed only after you choose Check for Updates…. Automatic background update checks are disabled.
- Currency Instant Answers request only a normalized currency pair from the configured HTTPS rate API when you enter a complete conversion expression while the launcher is visible. Amounts and full queries are not sent.
- Quick Links build a search URL locally and hand it to your default browser only after you explicitly open the result. The browser then owns that request.
